Four checks that solve most TV problems
Note any error code
Write down the exact code or message before restarting anything.
Restart the receiver
Unplug at the mains for 30 seconds, plug back in, allow a few minutes.
Check the cables
Make sure the cables from the wall and to the TV are firm at both ends.
Check the weather
Heavy rain or snow can interrupt the signal. Faults after it clears are different.
What satellite TV customers ask about most
Signal loss in bad weather
Why it happens, how long it lasts, and when it points to a dish that needs adjusting.
Channels missing
Usually a subscription, authorization or guide-refresh issue on the account.
No sound or wrong audio
Often the TV input, receiver audio settings or a loose cable.
Receiver won't turn on
Power, overheating and stuck updates. Replacements come through your provider.
Watching on phone or tablet
Provider app sign-in and watching away from home depend on account settings.
Returning equipment
What needs to go back, how it's returned, and what if something is missing.
Slow or not working?
Satellite behaves differently from cable or fiber. Knowing what's normal makes it easier to spot a real fault.
- Slow at peak times: speeds can dip in the evening.
- Monthly data: many plans slow after priority data is used.
- Weather: heavy rain or snow can interrupt the connection.
- Modem lights: note which are on or flashing before you call.
Unplug the modem's power for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and give it up to five minutes to reconnect. Test with one device on a cable if you can.
